One person was arrested in connection with a high speed chase early Tuesday morning on Interstate 75, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.
Hamilton Lawson, 45, is facing charges in relation to the chase including fleeing and eluding, child neglect and battery on a law enforcement officer K9, according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson. No bond has been set and a mugshot was not available.
The chase started around 2:35 a.m. at the intersection of Collier and Golden Gate boulevards, according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson. The pursuit ended at mile marker 110 of Interstate 75, but the northbound lanes of mile marker 107 were blocked. The interstate reopened around 5 a.m.
State troopers and deputies used stop sticks as a method to end the chase, and the vehicle later began smoking.
The circumstances leading up to the chase were unclear.
